Camp Savuti

Camp Savuti perfectly embodies the quintessential Botswana safari experience. From enriching game viewing opportunities to genuine tented accommodations, it encapsulates the traditional way of immersing oneself in the splendour of one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife regions.

Positioned at the heart of Chobe National Park, Camp Savuti rests along the banks of the arid Savuti Channel and in proximity to the renowned Savuti Marsh. Presently, the channel is dry; however, its historical fluctuations have highlighted the unpredictability of its flow, as it has passed Camp Savuti in the past and once again might grace the Marsh with its waters.

Accommodating 10 guests, Camp Savuti provides luxury tented accommodations, each featuring a private balcony and full bathroom. The revitalized guest area overlooks the Savuti Channel, boasting a spacious bar, dining area, pool, and deck. A separate dining space and firepit offer intimate settings for evening gatherings

Fourteen camp sites at Savuti Campsite including tuck shop, ablution block with hot water and flush toilets, and each camp site has its own water point and braai.  The Savuti Marsh area covers 10,878 square kilometres (4,200 square miles) and constitutes the western expanse of the park, located 50 kilometres (31 miles) north of Mababe Gate. 

The Savuti Marsh is a relic of a once-vast inland lake, its water supply severed by tectonic shifts long ago. Currently, the marsh periodically receives nourishment from the unpredictable Savuti Channel. This channel experiences extended periods of drying up, followed by sudden flows due to tectonic activity nearby. Although not currently flowing, the last time it reached Savuti Marsh was in January 2010, marking the first occurrence since 1982. This fluctuating flow has resulted in numerous dead trees lining the channel’s banks. The area is characterised by extensive savannahs and undulating grasslands, infusing this part of the park with vibrant wildlife activity.
