Mimosa Lodge

MONTAGU | WESTERN CAPE

Situated in Montagu, the heart of Route 62, only two hours from Cape Town, Mimosa Lodge is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Built in 1859, shortly after the establishment of the town, the Edwardian guesthouse has a rich and interesting history. Mimosa Lodge epitomises personal service, attention to detail and superb cuisine.

The Lodge is a delightful retreat with an enviable reputation for personal attention, hospitality and service with 17 rooms (11 Classic and 6 Suites) for both overnight guests and those who would like to enjoy the tranquillity of a longer stay. Rooms have the following facilities: aircons, heaters and hair dryers, complimentary Muscadel – a specialty of the area, mineral water and fresh fruit and flowers.

Guests can enjoy a refreshing swim or a game of croquet; or relax in one of the stylish art deco lounges. Dining is a truly remarkable experience at Mimosa and the multiple award-winning restaurant, The Grill Room @ Mimosa Lodge, is renowned for its superb cuisine. Run by owner-chef Bernhard Hess, the emphasis is on local fresh seasonal produce and most of the vegetables and herbs used in the kitchen are grown in Mimosa’s own extensive garden.

Mimosa’s fine boutique wines are handcrafted by Bernhard and boutique winemaker Lourens van der Westhuizen. At the foothills of the majestic Langeberg Mountains, the gateway to the arid Karoo, they create a fitting tribute to this collection, comprising a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and a heady Shiraz. Mimosa Wines are raking in the awards, winning four stars in the John Platter for both the Chardonnay 2009 and Shiraz 2008. The Chardonnay received a review of 3½ stars in Wine Magazine.
